Three Pieters projects nominated for the Betonprijs 2021!

4 November 2021

Three Pieters projects have been nominated for the Betonprijs 2021.

Concrete price 2021
This prestigious prize has been awarded every 2 years since 1979 to leading projects in the concrete construction sector to increase knowledge and expertise in the entire Dutch concrete sector. These projects are an example of intelligent, responsible, future-oriented, valuable and inspiring applications of the material concrete.

Buildings or parts (in the broad sense of the word) that are completed in the Netherlands by Dutch or foreign companies are eligible for the Concrete Prize. Projects realized by Dutch companies abroad may also qualify, provided that there must have been a substantial contribution from Dutch concrete expertise.

Van der Valk hotel Amsterdam Zuidas
A new Van der Valk hotel has been built on the east side of the business district of Amsterdam, the 'Zuidas'. The building is approximately 55 meters high and offers space for 240 hotel rooms, restaurants, conference facilities and a spa and wellness area. In addition, there are four above-ground parking levels with a total of 143 parking spaces. The plot of the hotel has a triangular base, with coves towards the top. The building meets the BREEAM OUTSTANDING requirements and thus obtains the highest achievable sustainability certificate.

The construction of hotel rooms is based on a constructive system that is as efficient as possible. This means minimum construction thicknesses and short spans. And everything is prefabricated as much as possible to achieve a short construction time.

The Line in Amsterdam North
The 72 apartment residential building The Line is located on the north bank of the IJ, in the Overhoeks planning area, opposite Amsterdam Central Station.

The project is built on an underground parking garage. The balconies are part of a continuous outdoor space around the building. The identity of The Line is largely determined by the facade grid that surrounds the building, this grid is composed of 60 mm thin balcony edges and 880 slender concrete columns. From the concept phase, these components were conceived in ultra-high-strength concrete (UHSB). There has been intensive collaboration with Hi-Con Nederland to further develop the intended balcony slabs and the facade columns.

Transformation of the Hoog Lindoduin building in The Hague
Hoog Lindoduin is in 1963 in The Hague. It is a striking L-shaped residential building with 14 floors and 182 social gallery houses. The building was renovated on a large scale on behalf of housing corporation Vestia, whereby the building was stripped down to the concrete shell to make way for the same number of homes.

A major leap in quality has been made in the field of sustainability, housing floor plan, living comfort, energy efficiency, sound insulation, fire safety and aesthetic appearance. The building is gasless. Each home has been given an individual heat pump that is connected to a ground source for heating and cooling.

Prize giving
Due to the current Corona measures, the winners of the Concrete Prize will be announced on a date to be determined in 2022.
