First phase renovation Lijnbaan delivered

29 November 2018

The first phase of the renovation of the Rotterdam Lijnbaan, between the Aert van Nesstraat and Oldenbarneveltplaats is finished. The 800-meter-long shopping promenade has to become an area for shopping and residency.

The canopies that interconnect the shop premises are the most characteristic part of the design for De Lijnbaan. With the 'crossing canopies' they connect the shopping area and frame the public space, creating a pleasant outdoor space, like a living room in the city.

Cleaning and restoration
In the storey facades, the existing concrete pits have been cleaned and restored. Where necessary, they were brought back by means of a specially developed 'set-up pen' from composite concrete.

The recessed niche between the canopies and the continuous gable at the level of the first floor - also an important element in the design of De Lijnbaan - has been carefully restored along the entire length and provided with gauze as pigeon protection to prevent pollution in the future.

On November 21, 2018, the canopies of Block A were festively delivered. At the end of 2018, the restoration of the block B awnings starts, the remaining part of the Lijnbaan. Subsequently, the canopies of Block C, the Korte Lijnbaan, will be restored.
