First pole of the new SAB building

16 March 2018

On Wednesday, March 14, the first pile for the construction of a new plant for SAB was struck. The plant is for SAB on behalf of their sandwich panels in Geldermalsen.

The current production location of SAB profile at Celsiusbaan 3 in Nieuwegein no longer meets the require-ments and wishes of SAB profile and offers no opportunities for expansion and optimization of the produc-tion and storage of semi-finished and finished products. In order to meet the higher quality requirements and the increasing demand from the market for high-quality sandwich panels and profile sheets, SAB's pro-file has decided to set up and involve a completely new production site.

The new business premises will be located at the Hondsgemet business park and will include two production lines.

Vibro piles are used for the main support construction and the office. We use HSP poles for the company floor (High Speed Piles).

"The new production location enables us to respond to the improving market for steel sandwich panels," says Theo Henrar, chairman of Tata Steel Nederland. "By increasing the production capacity we can, with our innovative new products, serve our customers even better and faster." The market for sandwich panels is also increasing due to increasing insulation requirements, the sustainability of existing buildings and the obligation to replace asbestos roofs.

Sustainable building
Sustainability was an important criterion when designing the building. Heat pumps make natural gas unnec-essary and there are solar panels on the roof. In addition, energy-saving technologies such as LED lighting, frequency converters and automatic shutdown of equipment are used. Steel sandwich panels from the SAB delivery program ensure the thermal insulation of the façade and are recyclable. The façade will be a show-case of the possibilities offered by the SAB sandwich panels and aesthetic profiles, and will be executed in the beautiful colors of the renewed Colorcoat Prisma® pre-painted steel from Tata Steel Colors.
