Repurposing Ringerskwartier Alkmaar

The Ringerskwartier is being created in Alkmaar on the Noordhollandsch Kanaal. A new, industrial and lively part of the center. A versatile and lively place where people live, work and shop.

Various parties are involved in the development of the area. Among others Pieters Bouwtechniek, AM (Ringers Shopping Centre), BPD Ontwikkeling (Nieuwbouw Ringerskwartier) and Ten Brinke Group (Ringersfabriek) are working together.

Rezoning plan
Over the past two years, work has been done on the repurposing design for the former cocoa and chocolate factory, better known as the Ringers factory. The monument is 100 years old this year.

Program
73 apartments will be realized on the 1st to 5th floors. Due to the great variation in construction, construction technique and appearance, each of the 5 building parts has its own character. The apartments are characterized by high industrial ceilings, large windows and characteristic elements.

Durability
Sustainability is an important part of the repurposing. All apartments are well insulated, receive heat via the district heating network and are equipped with a heat recovery installation (WTW). A varied range of catering establishments will be located on the ground floor. The centerpiece of this is a food hall that will function as an inner courtyard; a place for meeting, small-scale events and conviviality.

Ringer square
In addition, all parties are working hard on another square, the Ringersplein. In the future, this square will form the connection between the Ringerskwartier, the canal and the rest of the city center and will become the place to enjoy everything that the Ringerskwartier has to offer.
