Highest point Netherlands Institute for Space Research

5 October 2020

The Netherlands Institute for Space Research (SRON) in Leiden recently reached its highest point.

The new building at the Leiden Bio Science Park in Leiden offers employees a modern, inspiring working environment and is a replacement for the Utrecht location. This new building must provide space for SRON employees and for collaboration with top scientists from Leiden University, Delft University of Technology and for sustainable collaboration with other organizations and the business community.

The SRON program includes cleanrooms, laboratories, low-vibration research areas, offices, meeting rooms, support functions and technology. Furthermore, a beautiful atrium, a number of cantilevers with trusses and high beams and installations.

The building is certified according to the sustainability standard BREEAM-NL (an assessment method to determine the sustainability of buildings). The design has a BREEAM-NL score of more than 70%, realizing the ambition for a certificate at Excellent level.

We work together with Ector Hoogstad Architecten, the engineering firms Deerns  and Peutz and the construction consortium Medicom 6 (Visser&Smit Bouw and Kuijpers). The design started in the summer of 2018 and construction started after a year: very quickly for such a complex building. Delivery is scheduled for March 2021.
