Hotel Jakarta Public building of the Year 2018

12 November 2018

During a festive award ceremony on Thursday evening, 8 November 2018, the prize for the Public Building of the Year was awarded to Hotel Jakarta.

The hotel that has risen on the top of Java Island in Amsterdam is pushing boundaries in many areas, the jury observes. The hotel rooms have a solid wooden support structure, are fully prefabricated (including part furnishing) and are placed in a largely wooden support structure. The rooms are located around a spacious atrium, which brings in daylight deep into the building and that obviously has a wooden finish.

A main supporting structure of mainly concrete and wood with slender profiles for the façades and atrium together creates a sustainable industrial character. The large free height in the restaurant on the ground floor and the high height in the atrium up to 30 meters reinforce this image.
