Pieters adviser for Silk Factory in Russia

15 January 2019

Mei architects and planners has developed a grand and innovative plan to transform the site of the former silk factory in Naro-Fominsk, located at an hour's drive from Moscow, into a lively part of the city. The program consists of 50,000 m2 mixed-use, a new concept in Russia, and will turn the dilapidated factory site into a dynamic place in the heart of the city. Pieters Bouwtechniek is involved in this beautiful project as an advisory structural engineers.

Naro-Fominsk is a city with 70,000 inhabitants about 35 km outside of Moscow. The old silk factory is located in the center, on a river (the Nara). Naro Fominsk is, like many other suburbs of Moscow, very austere and the apartment buildings are simple residential blocks. The client (Ostov Group) now wants to make something different and renovate the old factory buildings into modern lofts.

The first phase of the project concerns the renovation of the Scutching Building. This first building is over 6,000 m2 in size and is being redeveloped for multiple functions, such as commercial, offices and showrooms. This impressive building is located on the river side and is therefore the perfect start to connect the area with the park. An extra floor for apartments will be added to this building

After this building, the other buildings on the site will also be renovated for various functions, particularly offices and apartments.

We have consulted with several local architects and structural engineers and together with Mei architects and the client we have been able to select a good local party. In addition, in December 2018 we were able to inspect the building.

It is a special project with a nice team to work with.
