The Diamond Exchange, Capital C Amsterdam in Amsterdam has been awarded the prestigious International Architecture Award 2022.

International Architecture Award 2022
The award is organized annually by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design together with the European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and is regarded as a leading recognition in architecture.

Capital C
A fair is a meeting place for markets, people and ideas. The former Diamond Exchange in Amsterdam had all these functions united in itself. The center for the creative industry that is now housed there also represents these functions.

The building designed by Gerrit van Arkel in 1910 is powerful and idiosyncratic. It is an Amsterdam classic and of course declared a national monument. But after several additions, a fire and various renovations, little of the original monument is left. In order to be able to take a step forward and have a 'face' again, the Diamond Exchange had to largely regain its original facade. The national monument underwent a major renovation to a design by architectural firm ZJA in collaboration with Heyligers design + projects.

A special dome made of steel and glass was placed on top of the classical monumental building; the Highlight.

Team: ZJA (architect), Heyligers design + project (architect), Zadelhoff B.V. and Sijthoff Media (client), Müller & van Tol (interior architect), Braaksma & Roos Architectenbureau (restoration architect), Van Milt Restaurateurs (restorers), Pieters Bouwtechniek (constructor), DCV Bouw (construction contractor), Octatube (engineer and roof construction contractor ), Studio Linse (interior architect High Light), NewKantoor (contractor finishing), Peak Development (development and project management).
