New City Sport Veldhoven swimming pool officially opened

2 August 2022

Six months after it was put into use, the new City Sport Veldhoven was also officially opened on Friday afternoon.

The opening was performed by Olympic diver Inge Jansen and Fabian Schouten Hernandez, the younger brother of the Veldhoven Eva who came up with the name of the new complex.

The fact that the opening took so long is not only due to corona. The municipality deliberately waited until the old Ekkerman pool, dating from 1976, had also been demolished, and the new connecting corridor between the new swimming pool and the existing sports hall was ready.

Two meters wider
The new complex  has three pools, all with a movable floor. At 25 x 17 meters, the largest pool is two meters wider than the largest Ekkerman pool. For years, Veldhoven politics has been about the construction of the new bath. Ultimately, the plan cost about 13 million euros. To let everyone get acquainted with the new pool, it was possible to swim for free on Saturday 16 July between 2 and 5 p.m. There were also various activities.

Building 1 will disappear to make way for the new building. Building 1 must be ready for demolition (and therefore completely empty) on 1 April 2023. All colleagues in Building 1, and all activities that take place there, must then be temporarily relocated elsewhere. The Temporary Housing Working Group is arranging this.
